PLANT AND ANIMAL CELLS WEBQUEST

  Introduction
Cells, what are they?  What do they do?  What are they made of?  How do they work?  All living things are made up of tiny building blocks of life called cells.  This WebQuest will help you answer these questions and identify the structures and funtions of animal and plant cells.  You will also learn the similartities and differences so that you can build a model of a cell.  So, come along and learn about the very building blocks of all life.

  Task
Working with a group on this WebQuest, you will first research the various parts of a cell.  Your team will find the differences between plant and animal cells and the locations and functions of various cell parts.  Your team of 4 must be split up into Two.  A group of two people from your team will be the "Plant Cell Expert" and the other two people remaining in your group will be the "Animal Cell Expert".  Use the websites listed under RESOURCES to help you research about cells. 
      * Plant Cell Expert #1 will use and complete the Plant Cell Research Page #1Plant Cell Expert #2 will use and complete the Plant Cell Research Page #2.
     * Animal Cell Expert #1 will use and complete the Animal Cell Research Page #1Animal Cell Expert #2 will use and complete the Animal Cell Research Page #2.
After you have become an expert you will work in your group to make several creative products based on cells.
    

  Process
List of things to do:
All pages and websites that are needed are found in the Resources section.
       1. Research about plant or animal cells.  Complete the cell research page
       2. Label and color your cell and all of its parts.
       3. Make a informational foldable using all of the organelles.  Make sure that you include:
                   * the name of the cell structures and the description of their functions
                   * a picture of the cell part.
       4. Be creative and make a three-dimensional model of your cell that you have become an "Expert" about.  The    cell should include all the proper structures and a master identification key.  Be creative and use the supplies that are available in the classroom.

 You will be evaluated in several ways.  Coloring and labeling diagram as well as the Foldable will be graded conventionally and assigned a letter grade.  The 3 - D Cell will be evaluated using rubrics.  The test will be taken in class and will be assigned a letter grade based on the number of correct responses.
